About Chemstar WATER

Founded in 1999, Chemstar WATER is a leader in industrial water treatment. Our core business protects the commercial and institutional buildings that people rely on every day, high rise offices and skyscrapers, hospitals and healthcare campuses, universities, and government facilities, alongside a growing base of data centers and food and beverage manufacturers. We protect customer assets, optimize water and energy use, and uphold the highest health and safety standards. Named a Top Workplace by the Baltimore Sun in 2021.

We are an independent, fast growing company that competes on the strength of our own capabilities: deep technical expertise, remote monitoring, and a level of responsiveness the national majors struggle to match. Supplemental disinfection is central to how we protect building water systems, and data centers are among the fastest growing markets we serve. This role sits at the heart of that work.

Our vision is to be the most customer centric water treatment company in the US. We can achieve this by taking care of our people who will then take care of our customers. That is why we recently launched our PEOPLE FIRST, CUSTOMERS ALWAYS commitment. We also dedicate 1% of profits and 1% of employee time to our local communities, and we invest heavily in employee growth at every level.

Our Core Values

  • Care Deeply – We “give a damn” about our customers, colleagues, and company
  • Do the Right Thing – We act with integrity, even when it’s hard
  • Excellence, Owned – We deliver with excellence, accountability, and ownership
  • People First – We win through teamwork, customer focus, and mutual respect
  • Customers Always– In everything we do, we think of customers
  • Growth Mindset – We drive innovation, continuous improvement, and meaningful change

The Role

The Director of Engineering and Supplemental Disinfection is a senior technical leader responsible for owning the strategy, design, development, and scaled delivery of Chemstar WATER’s Supplemental Disinfection Program. This includes proprietary equipment, remote monitoring platforms, compliance frameworks, verification testing, and field service protocols. This is a rare build from the ground up mandate. You will report directly to the CEO, own the program end to end, and have the authority to shape it, not inherit someone else’s roadmap three layers down. You will combine deep technical expertise with commercial instincts and the leadership presence to attract, develop, and retain top engineering talent, building a best in class program in a market with real momentum behind it. The role has a path to develop into owning company’s all of engineering, research and development activites as part of the senior leadership team of Chemstar WATER.

What You’ll Own

  • Program strategy. End to end ownership of the Supplemental Disinfection Program, from current offerings to next generation solutions that set the industry standard for reliability, performance, and scalability
  • Product development. Full lifecycle for supplemental disinfection equipment, including design, prototyping, testing, production scale up, and field deployment
  • Controls and monitoring. Controls engineering for all disinfection equipment, plus remote monitoring and diagnostics architecture that delivers real time visibility and rapid troubleshooting
  • Technology evaluation. Assess emerging disinfection technologies and molecules (chlorine dioxide, ozone, UV, copper silver ionization) to maintain Chemstar WATER’s competitive edge
  • Team building. Hire, mentor, and develop a high performing team of engineers, technicians, and specialists, with clear performance expectations and individual development plans
  • Compliance. Build and maintain the compliance framework, including state permits and local regulatory requirements across every geography we serve
  • Operational excellence. Define and track KPIs for safety, equipment reliability, project timelines, and customer satisfaction, while owning the engineering budget
  • Vendor and supply chain. Manage supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and optimize parts and equipment logistics to minimize downtime
  • Commercial support. Serve as the subject matter expert in customer presentations, trade shows, RFP responses, and marketing materials, and as the company’s authoritative voice on supplemental disinfection trends and regulations
  • Safety culture. Champion a zero incident culture across all engineering and field operations, aligned with OSHA and Chemstar WATER standards

What Success Looks Like

A scaled, reliable Supplemental Disinfection Program with strong customer adoption, measurable improvements in equipment reliability and project delivery, an engineering team that attracts top talent and develops future leaders, and a compliance and safety record that sets the industry benchmark.

  • Proven track record of building or scaling an engineering team and delivering measurable operational and cost improvements
  • Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements across the mid Atlantic and Northeast (MD, VA, DE, PA, NJ, NY, CT)
  • Exceptional leadership with a demonstrated ability to attract, develop, and retain technical talent
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills with a bias toward data driven decisions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, plus comfort with remote monitoring platforms and SCADA/PLC systems

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline

  • Experience with IoT enabled monitoring systems, remote diagnostics, and automation architecture
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies

Physical Requirements
